Reaching Out

Today each group recieved their worksite, whether kids club or manual labor everyone was very excited to get into the heart of Mingo County and build new relationships within the community.

The theme from today's devotion was reaching out like Jesus. Today was the beginning of our goal to act more as Jesus did. Many of our mission trippers found opportunities to do this on worksites by stepping out of their comfort zones and strengthening relationships with our church group and community members.

Here is a story of reaching out of comfort zones from two seniors who stepped their game up at their worksite today.
Today we were assigned the job of building a ramp for an elderly woman who has difficulty walking on a flat surface, let alone the very steep steps in front of her house. It was very clear that this task was to be done quickly but we couldn't help notice the little neighbor boy riding around yelling out to us. He was clearly craving love and attention and we couldn't help but give it to him. Not only did we get the chance to get to know this young man but he decided to help us out too. By the end of the afternoon he was doing everything he could to help us get the job done, play games, and even bring us some freezes from his home. This experience taught us that while the job assigned is important, it's not always the most important aspect of these trips.
